HEIDENHAIN, a manufacturer of linear and angle encoders, has added the new LIP 200 series to its range of highly precise exposed linear encoders. For the first time, this series combines properties which until now had been considered mutually exclusive: high resolutions together with high speeds, and that over measuring lengths of up to 3 m. The new LIP 200 series makes innovations possible in equipment for semiconductor production, for manufacturing of high-precision machines and for metrology.
Thanks to a fundamental improvement in the electronics of the scanning head, as well as the OPTODUR measuring standard, whose graduation structure reflects light very efficiently, the new LIP 200 series permits significantly improved stability of the speed and position in the application.
The linear encoder, which can be installed very quickly and easily, is designed for traversing speeds up to 180 m/min = 3 m/s and, like all incremental linear encoders from HEIDENHAIN, features a precise optical reference mark. The generated signals can be interpolated to produce resolutions of better than one nanometer. With the aid of the EnDat interface, measuring steps of down to 31.25 picometers are possible at the maximum traversing speed. Variants with TTL and 1 Vpp are also available.
For more than two decades, the high-precision exposed linear encoders of the LIP product family, consisting until now of the LIP 300, LIP 400 and LIP 500 series, have been setting the standards not only for short-range interpolation accuracy and long-range accuracy over the entire measuring length, but also for reliability and resistance to environmental conditions such as temperature and contamination. The generous mechanical mating tolerances are especially noteworthy.
